The Dallas Cowboys released their star wide receiver Dez Bryant, in a bombshell decision announced mid-Friday morning.

ESPNs Adam Schefter broke the news today.

“Cowboys expected to release WR Dev Bryant today, barring an unexpected last-minute change of heart, per @toddarcher and me,” Schefter tweeted. “But the plan going into meeting that is now underway was to part ways with Bryant.”

Dez Bryant spent eight years with the Cowboys and led the team with a total of 838 yards last season. But according to SBNation, the Cowboys havent been satisfied with his performance. He hasnt hit the 1000 yard mark since 2014 and was proving to be too costly to keep.

Bryant was signed on for a five year $70 million contract extension in 2015, which the Cowboys must have weighed and considered far too much to pay for a guy who wasnt performing as well after Tony Romo retired in 2017.

Its not currently known where Bryant will go but theres a solid chance hell make far less money, wherever it is. No doubt this story will continue developing as offseason bombshells continue to churn.
