Downton Abbey movie confirmed as cast reunite for big screen

The Downton Abbey movie has finally been confirmed.

Theres been rumours ever since the ITV period drama came to an end, but now Focus Features has announced that production is starting on the movie along with the shows cast.

In a statement released on Friday, it was revealed that the shows original principal cast from the TV show will be returning when production kicks off this summer.

Oscar winner Julian Fellowes has written its screenplay and will serve as producer alongside Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge.

While Brian Percival, who directed its pilot, will be taking the helm of the movie.

Since the series ended, fans of Downton have long been waiting for the Crawley familys next chapter, Focus chairman Peter Kujawski said.

Were thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, led by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, in bringing back the world of Downton to the big screen.

While Gareth Neame, the films producer said: When the television series drew to a close it was our dream to bring the millions of global fans a movie and now, after getting many stars aligned, we are shortly to go into production. Julians script charms, thrills and entertains and in Brian Percivals hands we aim to deliver everything that one would hope for as Downton comes to the big screen.

And, as expected, fans went into complete meltdown over the announcement.

One wrote: There is going to be a #DowntonAbbey movie!! Is life real right now???

According to Deadline, we can all expect our favourite stars back for the big screen adaptation – including Dame Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville.

Joanne Froggatt, who played Anna Bates on the show, previously hinted that the film would never happen because getting everyone together was tricky.

So were pretty damn happy they managed it!
