EastEnders is lining up a dramatic final showdown for Mel Owen and Ray Kelly as their wedding day descends into chaos – with catastrophic consequences that could see the first Walford death of 2019.

Having discovered Rays vicious web of lies which include him having a number of secret wives, Mel has been planning to expose him and bring him down a peg or two on their wedding day. After a wobble from Maddie, who is also in on the plan, Mel is all set for the big day and she puts the final pieces of her plan in place.

As the residents prepare for the ceremony, little do they know what lies in store but Mel is determined to have her revenge. However, it may well be that she has underestimated Ray and as events spiral out of control, danger follows with an explosive outcome.

Will Mel be forced to take that one step further – and kill her deceitful husband?

Tamzin Outhwaite told Metro.co.uk: She does want to humiliate him, but I think its more that she just doesnt want him to go on and do this again. He needs to be behind bars or dead or in another country, thats the only way that its going to work. So its not just about humiliating him in front of loads of people, theres got to be an end so he doesnt do it again.

With Ray, its just revelation after revelation. Hes lying, but then occasionally he is telling the truth, and she holds on to that thing – but the whole process of this is about her letting go.

Theres a lot of danger. As far as Im reading now, its got danger all over it.

Whether or not Mel makes it out of this unscathed remains to be seen but Sean Mahon was reflective over the possibility that his alter ego may be killed off.

He mused: Every story has a villan, an antagonist, so there has to be a pay off in some shape or form. The way that pay off comes, hopefully is different. If it ever came to a time where Ray had to go, its very disappointing because you love working with these people, but if it serves the story, it serves the story.

However, we shouldnt rule out Ray turning the tables.

He added: Well the way its set up is that the wedding is a set up for Ray, so Mel can win the day. On the wedding day, some events happen that may challenge her ability to win the day.

Its good, its very exciting. Theres so much action involved and so much drama that its fun to play.
