Someone is out to get Martin Fowler in EastEnders – mysterious newcomer Hayley has made it more than clear that she isn’t out to make friends with him as she takes pictures of him and acts on behalf of someone else. As she has went on to confirm that she knows what to do next, fans are intrigued and worried about what could be in store for Martin.

And a prominent theory relates to a storyline that happened on screen almost a decade ago. Cast your minds back to 2004 and a barmaid called Sarah Cairns who took an interest in Martin. After a drunken night, Martin woke up beside her and she claimed they had slept together.

Infatuated with him, Sarah blackmailed him and warned him she would tell Sonia about their night together. She later walked in front of a vehicle near to nurse Sonia and befriended her when she cared for her, which left Martin deeply unsettled.

As Sarah became more and more intense, she ended up pushing Pauline from a ladder and Martin issued a threat, which got him arrested. In a resulting showdown, Sarah told Sonia that she had slept with Martin but it became clear that nothing had actually happened.

As unhinged Sarah went to stab Sonia with a knife, Martin got in the way and was almost killed while Sonia hit Sarah over the head with a fruit bowl and she was later sectioned. But 14 years have passed since the explosive showdown – could Sarah still be holding a grudge?

Might she be set for a return to take a shocking revenge on Martin after all of this time? Or is Hayley working with someone else?
