The devastating reality of what the future holds has been hitting home for Chas Dingle and Paddy Kirk and while Chas had initially hoped that there would be a miracle despite being told that her baby would not survive outside of the womb, she comes to agree with Paddy that they should look into organ donation.

But with many fans hoping still that Emmerdale are planning a happy ending to this harrowing story, actress Lucy Pargeter has confirmed that the baby will indeed lose its fight for life after birth.

She told Metro.co.uk: Its not surviveable. We can say its going to be slightly different to how people are going to be anticipating it. But thats about all we can say.

With such devastating scenes ahead, the Dingles will need to be around to offer all of the possible support to the broken hearted couple. And Lucy hopes that Chas son Aaron will be around to help her pick up the pieces.

She mused: He hasnt had an awful lot to do with them and the pregnancy so I hope we have Aaron on board.

Discussing working on the storyline, the pair admitted that is has been exhausting and can take its toll. Lucy explained: Its been harrowing. In some circumstances when youre playing a storyline you dont have to necessarily go to the emotional place, there are other things you can use, tear sticks, wobble your lip. You can pretend to cry, youre pretending to do the emotion. Whereas for the first time in a long time Ive gone to places that I dont want to normally go to.

Reading the scripts has been hard, Ive been crying a lot at home while reading the scripts. When we talk about the dialogue and what were actually saying theres some absolutely beautiful lines written. So it has been really difficult, its been harrowing and hard, but its been enjoyable to play their journey as a partnership and a couple. Were living it like they are, we havent coloured our decision, were playing it as when they find out, we found out.

Dominic Brunt, who plays Paddy added: Its been fascinating to play. Its this kind of storyline that is food for an actor. Its weirdly got a strange, positive twist to it because they make the decision but for a positive reason. I think even if it was to get rid of the baby or not go to term, whatever they decide is neither right or wrong. Its not pro life or pro choice, its just their very unique personal decision which is for them. Once they decide, they do it in a positive way.

And, much like Emmerdale viewers, he has been full of praise for the soaps handling of the sensitive storyline. He enthused: I think its been done sensibly and responsibly. I think the temptation or danger would be to present it in an exploitative way and go “oh thats a horrible situation lets soap it up” and that would be awful. They havent done that – theyve really done their research.
