You can tell how much Jac cares for Fletch by how horrible she was being to him this week. Thats Jacs way – when someone gets too close her defences go up and shes back to being The TermiNaylor again.
Theres another dimension to the way she is with Fletch, though. Theres a softness when she looks at him, the little smiles she gives him. Throughout her time playing Jac, Rosie Marcel has shown us an evolving character whos the product of her difficult upbringing but who matures and changes. Shes a mother now and shes a little bit kinder and gentler than she used to be and Fletch recognises that niceness within her. I think he also admires her strength and resilience and he wouldnt really want her any different.
This made it all the more sad that despite all that she concluded that there was no future for them as a couple. In a parallel universe we are absolutely rocking what we have, Fletch said. Just not this one, Jac said, sadly. My head tells me I dont need anyone – but my heart… Shes not listening to her heart, though. To Jac, hearts are for fixing in surgery. Her brain is the boss of her.

Frankly if I was Fletch Id probably think Id had a lucky escape – not from Jac, but from her daughter. Emma was at Holby after being sent home from school for slapping another pupil. She proceeded to run riot in Jacs office (until Jac had A Word). Apparently Jonny has gone to work in America for six months and Emma isnt taking it well. She is getting extra cuddles from Sacha, though.
Xavier could probably have benefited from more cuddles when he was Emmas age, because with his family turning against him as they have hes grown up to be a guarded, wary person, albeit a very well-dressed one. It was this aspect that interested Jason, who sought his advice about wedding attire. They had a conversation in the garden about this and about Halloween. Jason said he preferred the Day of the Dead, and wished there was a day when the dead could visit the living again because hed like to talk to his mum and Elinor. This got under Zavs skin a bit because what hed like most would be to say sorry to his little brother. But while this was going on a car screeched into the car park and deposited an unconscious woman out on the ground.
Jason helped Zav with first aid, but he wanted to carry on being involved with the case and Zav got irritated and snapped at him. When it became clear that the woman (who was a drug addict whod been attacked) had a baby who was alone somewhere in Holby, Jason put his CSI hat on and helped the police to track the baby down.
This has brought Zav and Jason closer, and Jason has asked Zav to be his best man. It also led to Zav and Donna having one of their Moments in Albies later, where she gave him a hug for finally being himself. For a second it looked like theyd kiss, then they didnt. Are they going to be the new Jac and Fletch?

Its a busy episode where a plummeting lift isnt even the biggest story. The lift in question contained Leah, Meena and Lofty, who promptly had a panic attack. Once hed calmed down and theyd covered the topic of Pulses new healthy breakfast menu (muesli and yogurt and not a bacon and cheese toasty in sight), the three of them kept themselves occupied by sharing some of their secrets. Leah said that she regretted falling for a senior consultant. The other two advised her to go for it (while Berena fans worldwide yelled dont). Lofty talked about how Dominic wanted a baby and he really doesnt. meena and Leah said that he needed to be honest with Dominic about how he felt. And Meena told them about Professor Gaskell telling her that Roxanna was mentally ill, and how she was worried that she could have done something to help her. Lofty said that shed seemed fine to him, and if Prof Gaskell had concerns he should have dealt with it properly. Hopefully this will make either Lofty or Meena mention this to Hanssen when he gets back.
