Dean (Patrick OConnor) has been furious with Colby (Tim Franklin) and Mackenzie (Emily Weir) since discovering them together at her house, and he wants nothing to do with his sister any more. Hes also been left without a job since the Feds shut down Bens (Rohan Nichol) surfboard business, and Ziggy (Sophie Dillman) finds him killing time without a job. However, he needs one to fulfil the terms of his probation.
Mackenzie sees the couple and tries to invite them up to Salt, but Dean is quick to decline. Ziggy asks whats up and he says that hes got no interest in getting to know Mackenzie; he wont be the one left to pick up the pieces when her relationship with Colby goes wrong.
Struggling to find any jobs for Dean, Ziggy suggests he ask Mackenzie for a job at Salt, but thats the last thing Dean wants to do. Mackenzie shows up again, but Dean wont let her get a word in. After seeing Dean snap at his sister, Ziggy feels sorry for Mackenzie and encourages her not to give up on him. She also reveals the terms of his probation, which Mackenzie had no idea about.
Waiting outside Deans caravan, Mackenzie offers him a job at Salt, which he rejects. Mackenzie snaps and says she lost her chance with a decent guy because of him. However, Dean doesnt believe she and Colby are really over.

Mackenzie eventually loses her patience and tells Dean she wants him to treat her like a human. However, Dean says they have nothing in common and goes out for a surf. Refusing to give up, Mackenzie grabs some gear and heads out to the waves as well.
A confused Dean is left to watch from the sand as an indignant Mackenzie fights her way out into the water. At first, he watches with glee as Mac fails spectacularly at surfing. But she refuses to stop, and as she keeps getting pummelled by big waves, Dean realises his sister is in trouble…
