The summer months are soon going to be a distant memory and soap dramas traditionally tend to ramp up a gear as autumn comes into play. That certainly seems to be true of Coronation Street as a host of big name returns sets the stage for some major storylines.

As the McDonalds have their lives rocked by a staggering revelation, Sally Metcalfes future is looking devastatingly bleak while its all change at the Rovers and Underworld as the Connors continue their Corrie takeover.

With some sizzling passion, some devastating trauma and shock revenge thrown into the mix, Corrie is going to be firing on all cylinders…

Jims shocking revelation

As if Jim arriving back in Weatherfield wasnt going to cause enough trouble considering the tensions that were going around during his last stint, he comes armed with the bombshell to end them all – Katie, the baby he and Liz thought was lost decades ago, is actually alive.

Lizs world is knocked massively when Jim explains that there was a hospital mix up which meant that she has been brought up by another family abroad. But how will Liz deal with it when she comes face to face with her daughter?

Tracy and Steve wedding nightmare

The future is looking seemingly rosy for Tracy as she has finally got the family unit she always wanted – but could the attraction between Steve and Abi be set to derail the whole thing? After Abi plants a kiss on Steve, there is another secret being held from the bride – and its bound to come out.

Tracy forgave Steve for Michelle but were not sure she will be so lenient this time…

What brings Nick back?

Viewers are searching for any sneaky clues which will allude to the reason for Nicks return but whatever brings him home to his family, there is unfinished business. With Nick having left Leanne after his jealousy over Peter and Steve, how will she deal with his comeback?

And then theres Carla, who may be back with Peter by this stage. That surely wont go down well with Nick…

Poor Sally was conned by Duncan into signing over £40k of the councils funds and when he is arrested, he places the blame squarely at her door, arguing that she coerced him and suggesting he has hard evidence to prove it.

If Duncan does manage to put Sally in the frame, she could be facing prison. Is it time to dust off those Free the Weatherfield One t-shirts?

Ranas family struggle

Rana has struggled to cope with her family ostracising her for choosing to be happy with her soulmate and that pain comes back to haunt her again when her dad Hassan collapses and her mum Saira refuses to let her visit.

As Rana fears that her dad may die without her even having the chance to say goodbye, can Kate help her through this?

The Rovers changes hands

Gemmas dreams are in tatters when she discovers that Henry can no longer buy her the Rovers and its over to Johnny and Jenny to swoop in and make an offer. before long, a new era for the boozer has commenced and the couple are excited for the venture.

But their customers may be less enthused by the idea of turning the pubs name into Roverz.

Carla and Peter – business and pleasure

Another business getting a Connor touch is Underworld as Carla finally gets back to where she belongs – but its largely thanks to Peter that she gets the factory as he uses his money from the Rovers sale to buy Alya out.

As a result, she and Peter are now business partners – but will they become partners personally as well as Peter makes his feelings clear.

Lewis new plot

Lewis was last seen speeding off after conning Gail with the help of fake clairvoyant Rosemary – and it was down to Audrey who fell for his charm and allowed him to escape. But pictures have revealed that Lewis will soon be back – and he wants Audreys heart once more.

Sean faces his darkest hour

Over the remainder of the summer, Seans ordeals on the streets will get significantly worse as his life deteriorates around him but as he continues to hide the truth from neighbours, Billy eventually spots him as part of a homeless community.

Can Billy save him from his hell or will Sean and his pride refuse the support?

Liz and Johnny caught?

Johnny wants to put the ugliness of the last few months behind him but theres no escaping the fact that he cheated on Jenny with Liz – especially now that Steve knows and has given him a stern warning.

Liz meanwhile will continue to work at the Rovers with Johnny and Jenny as her bosses – which can only get more and more awkward. How will Jenny react if she learns of their shocking betrayal?

Joshs final comeuppance

Following his vicious beating that almost killed him, Josh has been given the news that he may be permanently blind and he blames Billy completely for what has happened. While David is destined to not get justice in the courts, was this the kind of outcome he could ever want?

As Sally fights to prove her innocence, she contacts her old mate Paula who will arrive in Weatherfield to help defend her case. But quickly, Sallys former school chum will strike up a closeness with her daughter Sophie.

Claudia and Audrey – frenemies!

Claudia has already poached Maria and she cant help but wind Audrey up over the success of her business empire but there still remains a strong friendship beneath the cattiness between the two women.

Particularly when Lewis returns, can Claudia be the one to look out for Auds?

A new cobbles battleaxe!

Maureen Lipman CBE has been confirmed to be returning to the cast – but not as her previous incarnation Lillian Spencer. Tyrone will track down his grandmother Evelyn Plummer following the death of his mum Jackie and she immediately gets her feet under the table at number 9, getting Fizs back up.

As Corrie welcomes its newest battleaxe, expect feist and searing quips aplenty!
