IT director Andy Muschietti is all set to helm an adaptation of English writer HG Wells famous book The Time Machine. The classic science fiction novel is said to be the progenitor of the time-travel genre. Wells also wrote War of the Worlds, another science fiction classic that inspired Steven Spielbergs film of the same name that starred Tom Cruise. Warner Bros, Paramount Pictures and Appian Way are involved in his latest adaptation.

The Time Machines plot synopsis says, “The Time Traveller, a dreamer obsessed with traveling through time, builds himself a time machine and, much to his surprise, travels over 800,000 years into the future. He lands in the year 802701: the world has been transformed by a society living in apparent harmony and bliss, but as the Traveler stays in the future he discovers a hidden barbaric and depraved subterranean class. Wellss transparent commentary on the capitalist society was an instant bestseller and launched the time-travel genre.”

Deadline reports that Andy Muschiettis adaptation of The Time Machine would be “a new version” of the story. Muschietti was also confirmed as the director of a live-action adaptation of the manga series Attack on Titan for Warner Bros. His Stephen King adaptation IT became a runaway hit, earning more than 700 million dollars. It is the highest earning R-Rated horror movie ever.

Muschietti is returning for the second part of the movie, called IT: Chapter 2. It is scheduled to release on September 2, 2019.
