James Arthur has announced he will be retiring shortly after the release of his next album – and fans are not happy.

But dont worry everyone – his reps have confirmed it is in fact a joke.

Yes thats right – it looks like James will be sticking around after his next album drops – and who knows, maybe hell release another couple of hits before he closes the door on the music industry.

In a short and to the point Twitter statement, James decided to pull his fans legs and teased his 2.33 million followers by writing: After this album Im retiring. Love James x.

There was an instant dislike from his fans, who were quick to respond to his tweet and some even suggested he was taking the mickey.

One wrote: Are you serious? This better be a joke Arthur.

Another added: I hope to Christ this is one on your many pranks James Arthur. A long rest yes but to retire is final. We cant live without you and your music, just like music as always been your world. I hope its a Friday joke but its NOT funny.

Someone else commented: Let me tell you Mr Arthur …. You have a long way until you retire. This music industry needs you because you are one of a kind and so original. Us JArmy adore you so much and we cant wait for whats to come …. Keep up the hard work JA (sic)

The singer has already released new tracks You Deserve Better and At My Weakest from his upcoming album, which the release date is yet to be confirmed.

Hes also recently been teasing fans with his new music, and even hinted towards a possible collab with Craig David.

In a tweet he wrote: In the studio writing with idols @CraigDavid @FraserTSmith today. Insane!

The Naked singers most recent album Back from the Edge was a comeback for James as he had been dropped from his record label before being re-signed.

It was released in 2016 and went straight to number one after clinching sales of 41,000.

Talking to Billboard at the time of his success, the former X Factor winner said: I wasnt really mentally in a good place before I did The X Factor.
