Could the James Bond role land in the lap of Outlander favourite Sam Heughan?

The chatter around who could be the new 007 has increased as Sams name has raced up bookies lists over the last few days – especially after he confirmed that hed grab the opportunity to replace Daniel Craig as the fictional spy.

It wouldnt be the first time Sam has acted in a spy movie. The 38-year-old Scottish actor has a role in the new comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me, which could be why pundits are envisioning him as 007.

Craig will star as 007 in one final film, the 25th Bond, before handing over the reins.

Ive always wanted to play James Bond. Its a part of every British actors legacy, the star told the Sunday Post.

He added: I loved Timothy Dalton because he was slightly edgy and dark.

Sean Connery was brilliant. I loved Roger Moore because I liked his eyebrow raising and the slight campness of it.

But if I had to choose one, probably Timothy Dalton. His The Living Daylights was more edgy.

Earlier this week bookmakers Coral slashed odds on the First Light actor being the next 007 to just 4-1 (from 25-1).

Tom Hardy (2-1 favourite) and James Norton (5-2) are now the two stars ahead of Heughan in the bookies betting.

Sam has managed to jump over the likes of the likes of Jack Huston (7/1), Aidan Turner (8/1), Idris Elba (8/1) and Tom Hiddleston (11/1), who have been constants names floating around the Bond rumours.

At the moment we dont know much about the next Bond movie – it doesnt even have a title – but what we do know is that Danny Boyle has been hired as the director to make it.

Information from a casting call for Bond 25 has set tongues wagging that Bond will be taking on a Russian villain.

More: James Bond

It suggests that Boyle and his team are looking for both a Russian actor and actress to play leading roles against Bond in the film.

The male Russian villain – who needs to be aged between 30 and 60 – must speak fluent English and demonstrate the following characteristics: Charismatic, powerful, innovative, cosmopolitan, bright, cold and vindictive.

The female villain, who must also speak fluent English, must be aged between 30 to 45 and be very striking, while strong physical / fighting / stage combat skills are required for a character who displays intelligence, bravery, ferocity and charm.

Shes witty and skillful. A survivor, the description continues.

Producers also appear to be on the hunt for henchmen of Maori descent, with those actors needing to display advanced physical / fighting / stage combat skills.

Sounds like Bonds going to have his hands full yet again but, after 24 films of fighting baddies from across the globe, he should be well-skilled in that department by now.

Bond 25 is set for release in the UK on 25 October 2019.
