John Higgins and Mark Williams have set up a tasty semi-final at the Six-red World Championship in Thailand.

The former world champions both won two matches on Thursday to come through to the last four where they will meet on Friday in Bangkok at 9am UK time.

Higgins saw off Wu Yize 6-4 in the last 16 before beating Dave Gilbert 6-4 in the quarter-finals in a rematch of their World Championsihp semi-final.

Williams has been in fine fettle in Thailand, hammering Joe Perry 6-1 in the last 16 and then beating Stuart Bingham 6-3 in the last eight.

According to CueTracker this will be the 57th meeting between the two veterans, dating all the way back to their first ever clash in 1994, strangely enough, at the Thailand Open.

It is their first match since their epic World Championship final in 2018 which Williams eventually won 18-16.

Higgins leads the head-to-head 31-21, with four draws in there.

The second semi-final in Bangkok sees Stephen Maguire take on Gary Wilson as the final four battle it out for the substantial top prize in the shorter-format event.

Maguire beat Jimmy White 6-5 and then Ali Carter 6-2 on Thursday, with Wilson seeing off Yan Bingtao and then Ding Junhui, both in deciding frames.

Wilson and Maguire have met just four times previously, each claiming two wins over the other.

There is 3.5m baht on offer for the champion in Bangkok, which equates to around £92,000, with just over £34,000 going to the runner-up.

It might not be a ranking event, but it would be a very welcome boost to any of the semi-finalists bank accounts.>Read More – Source
