Get set to relive your childhood – Judy Blumes classic teen book Are You There God? Its Me, Margaret is finally being turned into a film.

The 1970(?!) coming-of-age novel has been a favourite of teen girls for nearly five decades. The book, which follows Margaret – a young girl searching for answers about boys, puberty and religion – was considered controversial at the time of its release, and was one of the first novels to address teen issues for young girls.

Author Judy Blooms books have sold more than 85 million copies in 32 languages and in August she asked which of her books fans would like to see on the big screen.

Are You There God, It's Me Margaret is getting a film eeeeeeek

Theres been many a fake film trailer over the years, but this time its legit. According to Deadline, Blume has finally given away the rights to adapt Are You There… for the big screen, with writer director Kelly Fremon Craig (who wrote The Edge Of Seventeen) leading the project.

It [the book] is this rite of passage for women and girls, Fremon Craig told the publication.

Its rare for me to run into a woman or girl who hasnt read it and every time Ive mentioned it to a woman, they clutch their heart and let out this joyful gasp. Theres something so timely and full of truth and I remember for me that at that age, it felt like a life raft at a time when youre lost and searching and unsure.

Naturally, social media users are already overexcited about the potential release.

At last, Judy Blume has agreed to a movie adaptation of the book that taught teenage me far more about menstruation than I probably needed to know at the time. https://t.co/4vOROBrlJo

Wow. I do hope they do it justice. It was one of the first books that made me want to be a writer.

But in the meantime were guessing a whole bunch of dog-eared Judy Blume books will be coming out of retirement again.
