There’s been a lot of talk about where Patty Jenkins would be going with the follow up to the critically acclaimed Wonder Woman.

And, it would seem that the comic book oracles were right, as today the director confirmed Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince would be returning to the big screen opposite a fan-favourite villain, Cheetah.

And what’s more fans old and new will no doubt be delighted to see that the director has cast a heavyweight actress in the role, none other than Kristen Wiig.

Taking to her official Twitter account to announce the news, Patty wrote: ‘So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can’t wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned. #Cheetah!!! @GalGadot.’

The 44-year-old actress and comedian isn’t new to box office success either, most notably for her own writing and acting skills in Bridesmaid (which see received an Oscar nom for).

We’re definitely as excited as Patty is for this, just saying.

However, that while some people were firmly on board for the big reveal…

I think Kristen Wiig could be great as #Cheetah but I’ve only seen her in comedies; any suggestions on movies I should watch where she does a different genre?

Others were less sure of Patty’s casting for the role.

In fact, it’s fair to say some people are confused and unsure, while others are just outright peeved.

Ummmm I love Kristen Wiig a lot but I really don’t see her as Cheetah. I said the same about Heath Ledger as Joker and he shut me up, so what do I know lol.

That said, as some of the more negative tweets pointed out, there have been some seriously pleasant surprises when it’s come to casting in superhero movies – let us not forget the furor around Gal being cast as Wonder Woman.

Likewise people seemed to be unconvinced by Heath Ledger’s casting in The Dark Knight, so let’s not get too judgmental.

It’s also worth pointing out that Patty trounced the likes of Justice League and Suicide Squad at the box office with her first comic book outing, and is widely regarded to have created the best DCEU film to date by critics.
