SAN JOSE – An automated teller machine turned up on the side of Highway 101 in Monterey County on Wednesday, more than a month after a man claiming to be a technician wheeled it out of the San Jose Childrens Discovery Museum, authorities said.
The Monterey County Sheriffs Office reported the find to the museum, which contacted the San Jose Police Department to report the theft, according to Officer Gina Tepoorten.
Museum officials told police a man walked into the museum Aug. 7 carrying a clipboard and pushing a dolly. He identified himself as a technician and said he was there to service the ATM.
“The suspect put the ATM on the dolly and walked out of the museum with it,” said Tepoorten.
Tepoorten said museum officials were unaware of the theft until the sheriffs office contacted them.
No suspects have been arrested or identified.
