Man killed while standing on I-80 in Berkeley identified

BERKELEY — A man the California Highway Patrol said was killed early Sunday when he was hit by an SUV as he stood on Interstate 80 after his car apparently became disabled, has been identified by the coroners office as Marcos Perez Morales 33, of Richmond.

Investigators still have not determined why Perez Morales stopped his 1988 Honda Civic about 2 a.m. Sunday in the second eastbound lane from the center divider just east of the Buchanan Street exit.

The CHP said Perez Morales got out of the Honda and was standing on the roadway near the vehicle when he was hit by a 2018 Jeep Cherokee.
