A train passenger pulled a knife on another man and threatened to kill him after the man admonished him for hitting his child, law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation tell NBC 4 New York.

The 45-year-old victim was riding an uptown E train in Manhattan with his wife and five-year-old daughter around 3:30 p.m. on June 24 when he saw the other passenger hit his own child, who was riding in a stroller, the law enforcement sources said.

After the 45-year-old expressed disapproval, the passenger started to threaten him, police said.

“Its my kid — worry about your f—ing kid,” the passenger told the man at some point during the dispute, according to law enforcement sources. "I will kill you on this train."

“I promise you I will change your life," the passenger added.

Video taken inside the subway car shows the passenger with the stroller pull out a knife and shout as he holds open the train doors.

The passenger spits at the 45-year-old man just before exiting the train, the video shows.

On Sunday, the man told News 4 he and his family were on an outing to get ice cream when the squabble happened.

"We made eye contact and he says, 'Why are you looking at me?' And used f-words. And I said, 'You shouldn't hit your kid. It's unnecessary,'" the man recalled.

Police are now searching for the knife-wielding passenger, who was last seen wearing a red shirt.
