NCAA Proves Its The Worst, Punishes OSU For Recruits Visiting GameDay Set

Sports

The NCAA once again proved that its the worst organization in all of sports.

Ohio State had to self-impose sanctions after football and basketball recruits visited the set of College GameDay back in September, according to The Lantern. The sanctions were so bad that football superstar recruit Micah Parsons was ruled ineligible for the Buckeyes, which the NCAA didnt pursue further. What did Parsons and the basketball recruits do? Steal some money while on the set? Sell memorabilia to ESPN? Nope. Just hung out to meet some ESPN pundits.

The Lantern reported the following:

Both parties walked onto the stage of College GameDay and met with former Ohio State quarterback and ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, former Ohio State running back and celebrity guest picker Eddie George and two other ESPN analysts. The visits, it turns out, werent permitted, and Ohio State ended up self-reporting three NCAA violations for reach program.

Though it was not a violation to meet with the former Buckeyes, it was a violation for all recruits to meet with other members of the media during an official visit.

This is why the NCAA sucks. College GameDay is a football tradition. You wake up early, grab a drink, fire up ESPN and watch GameDay prior to the first slate of games of the day. Its an awesome event, and totally understandable why kids would want to meet those ESPN personalities. How is that a violation? Why would the NCAA care one bit? Big deal that Herbstreit and George went there. As if OSU couldnt have gotten them on the phone at any other time.

I remember a time GameDay came to Wisconsin during my time there. Thousands poured out, myself included, to see the show live before the Badgers played Nebraska. Why wouldnt we? Theres no guarantee youd ever see it again in college.

The NCAA sucks, it should be disbanded and these Ohio State violations are the latest example.
