Netflix have announced a sequel to Bright is officially happening, with Will Smith and Joel Edgerton set to return.

The flick might have been savagely panned by critics, but it seems the more positive audience reception and huge viewing figures have prompted a sequel.

David Ayer will return to write and direct the sequel, with previous writer Max Landis not being involved in the project.

Netflix confirmed the sequel with a video of orcs auditioning for the sequel, writing: ‘ANNOUNCEMENT: Orc auditions for the @BrightNetflix sequel are now closed. Thank you. Have a nice day.’

If you’re unfamiliar with the film’s bonkers concept, Bright follows Smith and Edgerton as two LAPD police officers – a human and an orc, respectively – in a universe where a variety of creatures live alongside humans.

The film was criticised for its heavy-handed racial themes, with Chance The Rapper also voicing his criticisms over the depictions.
