Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford retains the trust of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, despite a run of just two goals in his last 12 appearances for the club.

The 21-year-old signed a new five-year deal with the club during pre-season and ended nine games without a goal by netting twice in Uniteds 4-0 win against Chelsea on the opening weekend.

However, United are without a win since and theyve managed just one goal in each of their last three matches against Wolves, Crystal Palace and Southampton.

Paul Pogbas missed spot kick at Molineux meant United left with just one point, while Rashford was guilty of missing from 12 yards six days later at home against Palace.

Such charitable finishing has left Solskjaer frustrated and the Norwegian has made no secret of his anger at his attacks failure to convert simple chances.

Daniel James scored a stunning goal against Southampton and put in a number of teasing crosses in the dying stages when United pushed forward in search of a winner.

Without the injured Anthony Martial, Rashford was given a central role but he failed to impress and displayed little desire to get on the end of James crosses.

Its a criticism Solskjaer has had from the start of his reign at Old Trafford and stems from the knowledge of his playing days in which the Norwegian felt the easiest goals came from within the six-yard box.

Its therefore surprising that Solskjaer sanctioned Romelu Lukakus departure but he remains confident that Rashfords game can be nurtured to his preferences.

Theres an acceptance that Rashfords education as a no.10 in Uniteds academy has not provided him with the single-minded desire to get into the six-yard box, while hes mainly been utilised as a left winger in the last three years.
