It took a village to create the dreadlocks Rihanna wore in Oceans 8.

The Work singer switched up her hair game yet again for her role in the action comedy, which also starred Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway.

RiRi, 30, played genius computer hacker Nine Ball who wore dreadlocks in the film, paying homage to both the character and Rihannas Caribbean roots.

The locs were, of course, a wig and now we know just how much hard work it took to make them look as authentic as possible.

Rihannas longtime hair stylist, Yusef Williams, has shared the secrets behind Nine Balls signature look and, quite frankly, its pretty impressive.

Yusef, who has worked with the singer for almost 10 years, told Allure: This was a lot of work, a lot of hands involved to make this happen every other day. They were super heavy so we had to take them out and put them back in when she was shooting.

It was all worth it though as Rihannas locs looked perfectly genuine, with Yusef adding: It looked so beautiful in the movie.

According to the stylist, it took three to four hours to braid the locs into Rihannas hair and weighed a hefty 20 pounds.

Yes, 20 pounds. Thats nearly the equivalent of three average-sized newborn babies in the UK at seven pounds each. Blimey.

Yusef is responsible for creating some of Rihannas most iconic looks over the past decade, including the pixie cut circa 2009 and the fiery red hair she sported a couple of years later during the Rated R and Loud eras.

On switching up Bad Gal RiRis hairstyles back then, Yusef said: I started doing crazy flips, gave her a little bit of edge, [and] made it a little bit more badass.

If theres anything Rihanna definitely is, its badass.

Oceans 8 director Gary Ross previously revealed that Rihanna particularly loved sporting dreadlocks for the movie as it was so far removed from her real life persona.

Gary said a press conference for the film in June: The first conversation she and I had was about leaning into her Caribbean roots.

We both love Bob Marley, and I mentioned dreadlocks and she jumped up and down. Then we decided on a green army jacket draped over her. This is just different than Rihanna gets to be in most her public appearances, and she really loved all that.
