San Jose: Knife and chain fight ends in injury, arrest

SAN JOSE – A fight between two men – one armed with two knives and the other with a chain – ended with one in custody and one in the hospital Wednesday, San Jose police said.

An officer was driving in the area of West San Carlos Street and Mayellen Avenue about 1:30 p.m. when he saw the men fighting in the street, according to Sgt. Enrique Garcia.

Garcia said authorities at about the same time received a call that a person had been stabbed in the area. That person – believed by police to be the man who was armed with the chain – was taken to Valley Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man holding the knives refused to drop them and did not comply with commands from officers, according to Garcia. Officers then used “less lethal impact weapons with no affect,” Garcia said.
