St. Louis Cardinals Arm Their Players With Bulletproof Cups Following Groin Injury

Sports

The St. Louis Cardinals arent taking anymore chances with their players after one took a fastball to the groin.

The team responded by buying a bunch of bulletproof cups from Jeremiah Rabers Armored Nutshellz. Fox2Now reported the following on the situation:

Raber said the Cardinals reached out to him Sunday to buy three sets of Nutshellz after Yadier Molina was struck in the groin by a 102-mph fastball – that has him out for a month. The Cardinals heard about Nutshellz from the Baltimore Orioles which supplied them to all of their catchers in major, minor and AAA to prevent serious injuries. The catchers with the Cleveland Indians wear them too after past injuries had them looking for better protection.

Theyre made out of Kevlar, carbon fibers and aero-space epoxies and are more anatomically correct, covering more of the groin region than the average cup.

Well, this seems like the most obvious decision in the history of baseball. Im shocked that this wasnt already the case. Trust me, you take a shot to the groin and your week is going to be destroyed. I wouldnt touch the ice during my hockey days without a cup on. I dont know if mine was bulletproof, but anythings better than nothing.

Ive never taken a baseball to the groin, but Id have to imagine that its similar to taking a puck. Probably not as bad, but still bad enough that youd most certainly want a cup on.

Its awesome that the Cardinals just threw away the notion of getting regular cups. They went all out. They went and got the bulletproof ones. If it can stop a bullet, Im very confident that it can stop a pitch. Thats the type of confidence I want in my gear.
