JJ Abrams has revealed there was no way Carrie Fisher wasnt appearing in his latest Star Wars epic The Rise Of Skywalker and we can all breathe a sigh of relief.
Following the release of the trailer for Star Wars 9 last week, JJ said he couldnt finish the trilogy without his Princess Leia.
You dont recast that part and you dont suddenly have her disappear, he said of Carries Leia, following the death of the actress from a heart attack in December 2016.
Speaking with fans at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago on Friday, he said Leia Organa will appear in the next film using unused footage shot by Carrie from 2015s Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
Looking at those scenes and starting to understand that there was actually a way to use those scenes and continue her story, so that it would be her… The idea of having a CG (computer-generated) character was off the table… We said, “What if we could write scenes about her, so its her performance?”

He added: Every day it hits me that shes not here. Its so surreal because we are working with her still, if that makes sense. Shes in scenes. Shes alive in scenes.
We all lost ourselves with the release of the movies trailer, with JJ telling the panel: This movie doesnt pick up immediately after the last movie. Some time has gone by, this movie is an adventure the group goes on together.
One of the great things about the movie was the dynamic of the characters, theyre just the most wonderful together.
Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) and Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) are all back for the finale of the Skywalker saga, as are Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux) and Lupita Nyongo (Maz Kanata).
Meanwhile, Billy Dee Williams – who hasnt appeared in a live-action Star Wars film since Return of the Jedi in 1983 – is back to play Lando Calrissian.

Mark Hamill is also in the movie as Luke Skywalker, as Anthony Daniels will return to play C-3PO – and Richard E Grant, Dominic Monaghan and Keri Russell have been cast in unknown roles.
