Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath has revealed that he is losing his hearing after more than 30 years fronting the band.
The 51-year-old singer said that the damaging effect of performing live for so many years had taken its toll on his ears.
Im deaf now. I cannot hear anymore, McGrath told The Daily Mail this week.
Its years and years of being on the road and being two feet in front of cymbals and drums, he explained.
So high frequencies, I cant hear anymore. Ill be listening to people and theyll tell me their names and I cant hear [them] anymore.

McGrath, whose Californian band has produced such hits as Every Morning, Someday and Fly over the years, admitted that he was worried about how he would perform in the future.

Its scary because my job is hearing, he said. [The future] is absolutely a worry of mine.
Adding that he was dumb enough to choose not to wear the in-ear monitors favoured by most other artists, McGrath said he had declined to use them as he requires the sights, sounds and smells of a concert in order to perform – and that includes the auditory part.
But, unfortunately, mines going.

McGrath also warned his contemporaries that you cant repair your hearing: Once it goes, it goes. You can hope to stop the damage.
Its absolutely a worry of mine.
Despite his hearing problems, McGrath still plans to tour with Sugar Ray going forward and confirmed that hes started to use in-ear monitors – albeit in one ear at a time.
