It was supposed to be his comeback gig, however Tom Jones was forced to cancel yet another performance, this time due to weather.

Scheduled to perform in York on Friday night, the weather was seen too dangerous to risk a crowd of people, while it was said the singers chopper would not have been able to fly in the conditions to transport Tom to the venue from his home in London.

It comes after the 78-year-old was forced to cancel numerous shows after coming down with a bacterial infection that saw the Sex Bomb singer hospitalised.

The crooner took to Twitter to apologise to upset fans.

So disappointed about York last night and so sorry for you all, he said.

But lightening is unpredictable, dangerous and causes havoc so better safe than talking about something tragic today. Hopefully see you soon, we are working on it.

In a statement, York Racecourse, where the performance was set to take place, offered a 50% refund for affected Tom Jones punters.

They said: As anyone at the track on Friday evening will know, the weather closed in, with a series of storms hitting the course. More significantly similar storms blocked the route of both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft between his London home and Yorkshire.

York Racecourse and Sir Tom wish to apologise to his fans for this disappointment and understand the inconvenience caused…

Last week Tom had to cancel five gigs in Europe due to his ill health.

A statement from his team earlier this month, as he cancelled his scheduled performance in Finland, read: The condition is being well managed and under doctors orders, appropriate recovery time and rest is advised.

It continued: Sir Tom is in good spirits and wants to extend both his heartfelt appreciation and his sincere apologies to all who planned to attend the shows, as well as those involved in the events.

He is determined to be back performing very soon.

His next gig is scheduled for Turkey on Monday night.
