Venoms director says violence is pushed to the hilt as he hints Spider-Man spinoff is aimed at a mature audience

Venom the movie is only a matter of months away now, and its Marvels first big screen product since Infinity War (though its obviously not part of the MCU), so the pressure is on for it to perform.

However, one thing that could be a deciding factor in the films popularity with audiences – in particular comic book fans – has been whether or not the film will feature extreme violence, which is tied inherently to the anti-hero.

Previously both the director Ruben Fleischman and leading man Tom Hardy have alluded to the films gory face-eating nature, giving many fans hope that the film is set to avoid bowing to a child-friendly certificate.

The DC universe is so aggressively dark and the Marvel universe has become so light. It was kind of exciting to craft something that just felt a little bit more real and grounded and in our world.

Our movie wants to honour the comics as close as we can tonally, he explained. In the comics, he bites peoples heads off and eats brains. It would be weird to make a movie with Venom if he wasnt doing that.

We tried to honour it as closely as possible. This is definitely a darker, more violent, more vicious Marvel character than I think anyones ever seen before.
