The Walker Fire, the biggest in California so far this season, grew by nine square miles on Sunday, but activity has decreased across the burn area.

As of Monday morning, the fire had burned 43,931 acres (68 square miles) and was 7 percent contained, the U.S. Forest Service incident report said.

The Lassen County Sheriffs Office on Monday lifted the mandatory evacuation order for residents along Highway 395 in the Milford area, reducing it to a warning. The highway remains open to through traffic, but Milford community roads will be restricted to residents.

The other mandatory evacuation orders remained in place:

  • Genesee Valley Road corridor.
  • Ward Creek area.
  • Flournoy Bridge area.
  • From Antelope Lake to the Plumas County line.

The evacuation shelter is at the Lassen County Fairgrounds, 195 Russell Ave. in Susanville.

The Plumas National Forest on Sunday issued a closure order, shutting public access to roads and trails around the fire. That closure boundary is shown in black on the map above.
