The characters are a fictional species of humanity who made their first appearance in comic book form in 1976, created by writer and artist Jack Kirby.

According to the story they are a bunch of super-powered, near immortal beings who were created as a result of genetic experiments on early humans by a bunch of cosmic gods known as the Celestials.

Both sides have been locked in a never-ending war since their creation – although its pretty hard to kill an Eternal, given their near-immortality.

Their super-powers include superhuman strength, the ability to fly, read minds, generate illusions and teleport.
