Barlow called into Boomers’ Cup squad

Veteran David Barlow has been called into the Australian men's basketball World Cup squad to replace NBA forward Jonah Bolden.

The 35-year-old Melbourne United power forward has represented Australia at two Olympic Games and was a member of the Boomers' squad for the World Cup qualifiers last year.

Bolden pulled out of the campaign on Sunday citing personal reasons, just hours after playing well in the team's bounce-back win over Canada in Perth.

Barlow will begin practising with the Boomers squad on Wednesday, a day before they take on the United States in the first of two games in Melbourne that lead into the World Cup in China next month.

"After reflecting on the needs of the group, it became evident that David's skill set complements the group nicely," said coach Andrej Lemanis.

"He brings strength and versatility at the defensive end, has great international experience and is committed to doing whatever is required for team success.
