Its an issue that has polarized Hollywood with many calling for James Gunn to be reinstated to the Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise while others have applauded his sacking.

There has been much debate about whether or not Disney were right for firing the director for a series of historic tweets making light of paedophilia and rape (which resurfaced late last month).

And following an open letter from the cast, which saw the likes of Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista and Chris Pratt throw their support behind James, 51, there have been murmurings that he would be reinstated.

However, it looks as though theres not much hope of this happening, according to a new report which quotes an insider saying the studio has a different standard to others – meaning all hope for a reinstatement is lost.

It goes on to say that the feeling within both Disney and Marvel is that tweets that Gunn made are unacceptable in the #MeToo era, and are not in line with Disneys family-friendly image.

Despite the letter from its stars, and an outpouring of support from the public, an insider explained that at this point, the letter does not seem likely to save his job.

I dont see Disney re-hiring him, one insider explained. Those tweets were so horrible and Disney has a different standard than other studios.

The letter from the cast gave fans backing Gunn cause for hope, as it was signed by all members of the main cast: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Michael Rooker, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, and Vin Diesel.

We fully support James Gun, it began. We were all shocked by his abrupt firing last week and have intentionally waited these 10 days to respond….We are not here to defend his jokes or many years ago.

However, the applauded the man they know, writing: The character he has shown in the wake of his firing is consistent with the man he is every day on set.

Gunn managed to make Guardians a runaway success, despite many in the industry writing it off before the film even hit cinemas.

Having previously broken out as a indie success, Gunns work on the films as director and writer turned him into a giant star – and one of Marvel Studios most influential creatives.

Metro.co.uk have reached out to Disney for comment on the matter.
