Loyola-Chicago Rakes In Donations After Incredible Final Four Run

Sports

Loyola-Chicago has seen the schools donations blow up since the basketball team made the Final Four.

ESPN reported the following:

A trip to the Final Four for Loyola-Chicago has resulted in a 660 percent increase in donations as compared to the previous year, the school announced Monday.

The private school declined to give actual dollar amounts, but said the increase represented the time period from March 1 to April 2, 2018, versus the prior year.

The amount of donations the athletic department received for this time period was 28 percent more than the previous highest total received in 1988, said Tom Soboro, Loyolas senior associate athletic director of external operations.

This is something I often bring up when discussing the importance of sports. People who dont like or follow sports at the college level really dont seem to understand that sports can serve as a way to rake in money for the school.

One classic example is when Texas A&M raised more than $700 million after Johnny Manziels Heisman year. That money benefits much more than just the football or basketball team. Thats the kind of money that changes universities and lives for the better.

Its a shame that we dont have an exact dollar amount, because Id love to know. Id be willing to bet that its north of $100 million. Im sure that Loyola has some boosters with some extremely deep pockets.

Good for Loyola! Spend the money wisely.
