Darius Perkins has passed away aged 54 after a cancer battle

Neighbours star Darius Perkins has died from cancer aged 54, its been announced.

The Australian actor, who has also appeared on Home and Away, passed away on Wednesday.

He is best known for playing the original Scott Robinson back in 1985, before Jason Donovan took over the role.

Darius later returned in 2013 as a completely different character, Marty Kranic.

Marty helped Scotts brother Paul Robinson in a shady scam that saw him trick $5000 dollars out of criminal Robbo Slade.

His character later tried to frame fan favourite Toadie in a hit-and-run involving Robbo, but skipped town when it was revealed that he was covering his tracks in a money-grabbing scam.

David Clencie, who played Danny Ramsey on the series, remembered his incredible bond with his friend after his death was announced.

He told the Herald Sun: I am so sad, really devastated to lose my mate. We had this incredible bond. We were mates to the very end.

His sister-in-law Kate Cuthbert also shared the sad news, and wrote online: My adored brother-in-law passed away last night. Have I ever told you that I married in to Australian royalty?

He was funny and kind and so loving, she continued. And he was too young to go. And Im really, really sad today. In conclusion, #f***cancer.
