Reuben Fosters girlfriend, Elissa Ennis, walked back claims that he brutally and savagely beat her late Wednesday.
The San Francisco 49ers linebacker was recently charged with multiple felonies for domestic violence after Ennis was hospitalized with injuries, but her new claims have made this situation extremely bizarre.
The Sacramento Bee reported the following:
The attorney, Stephanie Rickard, said that the injuries, including a ruptured eardrum, that sent the 28-year-old woman to the hospital were suffered in a fight with another woman and there is a video of that confrontation.
“(Foster) did not strike her, injure her or threaten her,” said Rickard. She said Foster tried to end the relationship with her after learning of the fight.
“She was extremely upset and told him if he broke up with her she would trash his career,” Rickard said.
She said the girlfriend, whom Rickard identified as Elissa Ennis, has told local prosecutors that she wanted to recant, but the district attorneys office filed charges anyway.
I dont ever remember a situation this crazy with the NFL. Shes not denying that she was brutally beaten, but is now just claiming that it was done by somebody else. At the same time, prosecutors clearly felt they had enough evidence because you dont press charges unless you think youve got the case locked down, especially against somebody with the money to fight.
The 49ers have already promised to cut him if hes convicted of domestic violence, but where does the case go from here? Can you go to trial if the girlfriend is completely uncooperative and now telling a different story? You could, but it might be hard to find a jury willing to convict.
I have no idea what is going to happen here, but Reuben Fosters domestic violence case is quickly becoming one of the strangest things in sports right now. You couldnt make this situation up if you tried.
