A vulnerable Serena Williams cut a despondent figure following her US Open defeat to Bianca Andreescu, bemoaning her performance in a fourth consecutive defeat in the last match of a major.

The American great was left super frustrated by her latest loss on the biggest stage, which left her one short of Margaret Courts all-time Grand Slam record.

Since returning to tennis after pregnancy, Williams has been beaten by established WTA stars Angelique Kerber and Simona Halep at Wimbledon and up-and-coming youngsters Naomi Osaka and Andreescu in New York.

After the 6-3 7-5 defeat to the Canadian, she showed more vulnerability than is accustomed in the aftermath of a loss as she expressed her regrets at being so close yet so far to a first major title as a mother.

Im not necessarily chasing a record, she said. Im just trying to win Grand Slams. Its definitely frustrating, you know. But for the most part I just am still here. Im still doing what I can do.
