This is how Peyton Reed created what may be Marvel's funniest set piece

Luis heads up what may be one of Marvels funniest scenes (Picture: Marvel)

In Ant-Man And The Wasp, there is one truly fall-off-your-seat laughing scene.

The film is full of gags but this one sees Scott Langs business partner Luis injected with truth serum which leads to him telling the whole long and sordid tale of how Scott and Hope Van Dyne met.

What begins as Luis tied up in a chair and revealing secrets soon however turns into a sketch that sees Scott and Hope acting out their history, in the eyes of Luis, and with Luis words coming out of their mouths.

When Metro.co.uk sat down with director Peyton Reed for a chat about the upcoming 20th Marvel film, we had to ask about this scene.

So how exactly did it happen? Peyton explains…

We script it obviously, very specifically, then on the day we shoot Michel Pena in the chair, with everyone there, to get the level of performance and energy we need.

Then I go off and [pick] my preferred takes, and then we do what we call a radio cut of it which is just taking the best of every take and everything that works audio-wise. Then after that, we would shoot, whether Evangelines moment or Pauls moment or whatever actor and get [them to do the] line.

So we have a speaker on set, and play [the line] over and over and over again so they can get the speed and the cadence and the sync, and also the performance because Mike performs it with such a specific attitude, and also [because] its the character of Luis version of events and [so] they are not necessarily just performing as Scott Lang or Hope Van Dyne, but Luis version of that character.

Michael [is never on set with Evangeline or Paul though], he does his version then he is not there on the day, they are left with just listening to the thing and doing their interpretation.
