Tom Jones hospitalised for bacterial infection as he cancels concert

Tom Jones has been hospitalised after falling ill with a bacterial infection.

The 78-year-old will not be performing at Chester Racecourse tonight as he is being treated for the illness.

A statement on Jones Twitter read: It is with regret that we have to postpone Tom Jones performance at Chester Racecourse this evening. The show will be rescheduled for Sunday 12 August. All tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled date. If you are unable to attend the rescheduled date, refunds will be available at point of purchase.

Sir Tom Jones has a bacterial infection for which he is being treated in hospital. The condition is being well managed and we are hoping for a speedy recovery.

He is extremely sorry and disappointed not to be able to perform tonight, and sincerely apologises for inconveniences caused to the audience and all those who are involved in the event.

This comes after Jones gig at Stanstead Park last night was cancelled just hours before it was due to begin.

A statement at this time on Toms Twitter read: It is with regret that we have to cancel Tom Jones performance at Stanstead Park this evening. Unfortunately, Sir Tom is unwell and has been advised by doctors not to perform.

The Voice mentor is due to perform in Germany and Finland before completing further UK dates in August.

The singer cancelled his US tour last September with just five days left on doctors orders following a hip replacement.
