Young Captain Marvel Actress Will Star in the New Ghostbusters

Somewhere, skeptics Google search alerts for Ghostbusters and Captain Marvel are going into overdrive. The new 2020 film reigniting the ghost-hunter franchise has its youngest lead, setting 12-year-old actress Mckenna Grace for a key role alongside Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Grace—who played one of the young Carol Danvers figures in Captain Marvel flashbacks—will play the “ostensible lead” of Jason Reitmans new Ghostbusters, as sister to Wolfhards character and daughter to Leftovers alum Carrie Coons single mother. The movie is said to focus on four teen characters; two older and two younger.

The director confirmed as much on Twitter:

Reitman—son of the original 1984 Ghostbusters film director Ivan—and Gil Kenans script is said to pay homage to the legacy of the original film and its 1989 sequel without directly continuing their story. The film will also have no connective tissue with Paul Feigs 2016 reboot, despite some objection from star Leslie Jones and a bit of fan controversy overall.
