Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves have expressed their concerns about Marcus Rashford playing through the middle for Manchester United following the sides 1-1 draw with Southampton.
Anthony Martial, who was handed the No.9 shirt this summer, was absent through injury which meant Rashford started as Uniteds central striker at St Marys and the England international came in for widespread criticism after an ineffective display.
In the wake of the draw, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that United need to score more nasty little tap-ins after a succession of crosses flashed across the box without being converted.
Questions have since been raised regarding the clubs decision to let Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku leave this summer without bringing in reinforcements.

Solskjaer is hopeful that Martial will return from his thigh problem in time to face Leicester after the international break, much to the relief of Scholes and Hargreaves.
Its a shame because I love him as a player, I think hes terrific, but they [United] need a No.9, former United midfielder Hargreaves told Premier League Productions.
Sanchez has gone, Lukaku has gone, they needed him to step up. Martial has really taken the No.9 shirt and been great.
Rashford had a chance [against Southampton] and he didnt take it.
Is he going to be a No.9, is he going to play off the left? He didnt capitalise.
Scholes added: I think thats the big question – what actually is he? And its the same with Greenwood, Martial, hes similar.
On that performance [against Southampton] he just didnt look like a centre-forward.
I dont think you can judge it on one performance, he hasnt played there a lot.
He looks like the scorer of great goals rather than a great goalscorer to me.
Solskjaer insisted that his team are showing signs or promise despite three matches without a win in the Premier League.

The last three games, we deserved to win all three of them but that doesnt give us any comfort on the table, the Norwegian said after Uniteds draw with Southampton.
But it does give us comfort that were doing the right things, were on the right track.
